Covid 19 Update16 March 2020 (by Claire Grady (c.grady)) |
Further advice has been published this evening by HM Govt. The information states that, for now schools are to remain open and that we are to continue to exercise good hygiene. Guidance on social distancing to help protect older people and vulnerable adults and Stay at home guidance for households with possible infection have been published. Please log onto gov.uk to see the updated documents. The message is clear - if you live with others and you or anyone in the household has symptoms then ALL members must stay indoors and not leave the house for 14 days.
In short, your child SHOULD NOT BE IN SCHOOL FOR 14 DAYS IF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING APPLY:
- If anyone in your household has a fever or a persistent high temperature
- If anyone in your household has a persistent cough
- If anyone in your household has been diagnosed with Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Your child should be in school for the time being if everyone in your household is both well and feeling healthy. Quite a lot of our children are very anxious at the moment; please try to reassure them that school is only open because we and the Govt. deem it to be a safe place for them. Please also ensure that they have good hygiene routines at home including good hand washing (for 20secs) regularly and that they do not mix with other people especially older relatives and pregnant women who are particularly at risk.
If for any reason you are concerned and feel that they are at risk of catching the virus, or if your child, or anyone in the household have any of the above symptoms then you must ALL self-isolate for 14 days before you even think about coming back to school.
Contacting the school office to ask for advice just ties the staff up in dealing with telephone calls when they need to looking after the school and the young people who are in it. If in doubt, self-isolate.
Going forward, we will be looking at ways in which we as a school can support you to engage with learning at home. In the meantime, please log onto BBC Bitesize. The site has lots of resources to support both the KS1 and KS2 curriculum.
Thank you for your continued support. Stay safe everyone.
