English is at the core of our curriculum because we understand that a high standard of English is a key life skill. We aim to equip pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word. Through the English curriculum, we will help children develop the skills and knowledge needed to communicate effectively through the spoken and written language, enabling them to access all areas of the curriculum and become lifelong learners in all its forms. We know the importance of reading for pleasure for our children on their social, emotional, cultural and educational well being now and in the future. Quality children’s literature is at the heart of our English Curriculum and we strive to develop children’s love of literature through reading for enjoyment.
